Went for a drive today because the sun was shining. As soon as I got into the mountains it was overcast and snow was falling softly like fog. I ended up turning around and going back to the places I can usually find a fox, or a deer hanging out.
After some failed attempts at photographing trees in an interesting way I started home. Before home though, I decided to visit a shrine that has some particularly photogenic stone guardians out front. Then I changed my mind and turned down a side road that I like to think of as my winter rally stage. As I turned the bend I was confronted with a herd of deer just standing around in the road. Most of them took off for the fields while two more bounded up the road instead. I frantically swapped lenses on my camera and pulled over. I managed to get a few snapshots before they disappeared from my view.
Unfortunately my rally stage was too snowed up even for the Hokkaido Sled to plow through so I turned back and headed into the deep woods to see if any foxes were hunting. I saw no foxes, but I did capture a very fluffy Eurasian Jay, or miyamakakesu, in the trees. It wasn’t very happy to sit still and I had trouble catching it in frame.
